What makes a great bowler great?

Is it power? ... flexibility? ... stamina? ... determination? ... concentration? ... focus? ... unflappability? ... attitude?

Bowling must be one of the easiest games around.

All you have to do is lay that ball in that pocket.

Most of us who bowl at all can get the ball pretty close each time.

If it is so easy -- why is it that some people are SO much better at it than others?

I have always thought good bowlers are simply less bothered by pressure -- they are naturally more zen-like, more focused, more unflappable.

I wonder if there have ever been any studies comparing the ability of great bowlers (versus good bowlers) to focus better and shut out the pressures of the sport.

Are great bowlers born with their skills of concentration -- or is that developed over time by playing the game?

In short -- are bowling scores correlated to serenity?
