BASIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING TELESCOPING

HOW TO MAKE TELESCOPING BOXES
SCORE	CUT	FOLD	DONE

Step One -- Get ready:
Place the Scoring Base on a flat desk or tabletop. Note that one side of the base is marked "TOP" and the other side is marked "BOTTOM". The "TOP" side will be used for making your box tops and the "BOTTOM" side will be used to make your box bottoms. The spacing between the guide rail and the scoring slots is slightly larger on the "BOTTOM" side -- this makes the length and width of the box bottom slightly smaller than the box top and will result in a perfect fit for your boxes.

Scoring slots are spaced at 1/2" intervals across the face of the base.

Which slot you use will determine the DEPTH of your finished box.

Step Two -- Select cardstock size:
Select two same-size sheets of the material you wish to use to make your box. You can use the enclosed samples BoxBlanks or your own material. The BoxBlanks can be cut down to the correct size should you wish to make a smaller box. By using the Dimension Chart packed with the Boxmaker you can pick out what size you want your finished box to be and see what size material you should start with.

If you do not have a Dimension Chart -- you can figure the LENGTH and WIDTH of the cardstock needed
by using these simple formulas.

1 LENGTH of cardstock = (length of box) plus (twice the depth of box)

2 WIDTH of cardstock = (width of box) plus (twice the depth of the box)

Example: A finished box that is 4" long, 3" wide and 2" deep would require starting with a 8" (4+2+2) x 7" (3+2+2) piece of cardstock.

Step Three -- Score: (see photo Top Left)
Put one BoxBlank (or your selected material) against the guide rail on the Scoring Base side marked "TOP". You will want to score your BoxBlank on the side that is to become the inside of your box, so what will be the outside surface of your box should be face down. Score each edge of the BoxBlank ( a total of four scores, one score parallel to each edge) using the enclosed Scoring Tool. Be sure to use the scoring slot that is equal to the depth of the box you want to make. For example, using the 2 1/2" slot will give you a box that is 2 1/2" deep.

Step Four -- Cut: (see photo Top Right)
Cut notches in the four square corners as shown. These notches make a flap in each corner of the box.

Step Five -- Fold: (see photo Bottom Left)
Fold your BoxBlank along all four score lines with the corner flaps INSIDE at each corner.

Step Six -- Glue:
Glue each corner flap to the inside of the adjacent side. A hot melt glue gun works best. If some flaps overlap, simply trim them. Your box top is complete.

Step Seven -- Repeat #3 to #6
Repeat steps three to six for the other BoxBlank Be sure to use the side of the Scoring Base marked "BOTTOM".

When you have successfully completed these steps, the top and bottom of your box will fit snugly together.

Note:
BoxBlanks can be cut down to a smaller size or cut into any straight sided shape you wish (triangle, rectangle, pentagon, etc.) -- if all edges can be placed against the guide rail, the Boxmaker system will work!

Hint:
For decorating boxes with certain materials (tissue paper, fabric, gift wrap, etc.) it's best to apply the material before you begin scoring and folding.

Any cardstock material can be used to make boxes. Old cereal boxes, and the backs of writing paper pads work great.
