GENERAL PLAN FOR ORIGAMI TYPE BOX WITH DOUBLE THICK WALLS, NO RAW EDGES AND LOCKING FEET ---
NEEDS NO GLUE  (not to any scale)

1.      Use any cardstock from about .008"  to .025" thick. Use thinner material with small boxes.
2.      Score with Metal Tipped Scoring Tool and Boxmaker or Flexopad(tm) or other scoring system.
3.      Distance of 3 scored lines from edge of cardstock and the distance between the scored lines are
the same all around and are equal to depth of box. Boxes less than 1/2" deep are difficult to make.

4.      Width of cardstock blank is equal to the width of the box plus six times the depth of the box.
5.      Length of cardstock blank is equal to length of box plus six times the depth of the box.
6.      Boxes from 2 x 2 x 2" to 10 x 8 x 4"
(l x w x d) are usual, although the plan holds for any size.
7.      Outside scores all around and 45 degree scores are on outside surface -- all other scores on inside surface.
8.      Shaded triangular areas shown in lower left corner may be cut away from all corners (before folding) if these
areas are too bulky for your choice of size and thickness of material.

9.      The same box --- without locking feet can be made by only scoring two scores along each edge Such boxes
need glue to hold them together. In that case, the formula shown above in #4 and 5  has to be changed --- add only
four times the depth of the box to length and width.

10.     It is easiest if you cover the cardstock before folding.
11.     The blank for the box top should be about 1/8" wider and longer than the blank for the bottom --- they will then
telescope together.

This Origami box is made like the drawings above -- in roughly the same proportion

These Origami boxes are made like the drawings above -- but they are in different length, width and height proportions.

The top set of pix shows the top of the box being unfolded.
Note that the cardstock has different colors on each side.

Please also take a look at our Scoring Techniques screen for more ideas on how to create these boxes.
