Subject: Congress should declare peace

Senator or Representative XYZ,

Because Congress is authorized by The Constitution to declare “War”, they certainly should be able to declare “Peace”.

Although it has never been tried, that does not make it impossible.

I urge our lawmakers to declare peace and leave it to the courts to decide if the right to declare war inherently gives them the right to declare peace.

Bear in mind that we are a nation of contracts: many of them implied. It is generally recognized that contracts must have an actual or implied duration. Contracts that are open-ended are basically forbidden.

All declarations of war should be not open ended -- they should have a time element specified or implied by a statement of which conditions will end the contract.

Surely, the lawyers in Congress can figure out a way to get this idea before the courts.
